As Chief Executive, I had one clear priority above all else – for Luton Council to be a values-led organisation, not just an organisation with values; for our guiding principles to run right through the core of the organisation, and our managers and staff talking about how this influences the way we work with each other and with our customers.

By focusing on our real needs Caret helped us to establish the core principles that underpin everything we do. Our staff share examples of values working in the organisation and the process has been so engaging that we are building values into our appraisal scheme.

Then, in May 2007, the returning Labour Administration formally adopted the core values as part of the Corporate Plan. So, now we’re extending our values-led approach into the political as well as the professional work of the a Council. Caret has informed our thinking and practice, enabling us to shape a much stronger approach to developing our organisation.
